Experience

In the summer of 2011, I will have been working in the electronics industry for 25 years, in both England and the USA.

I have worked on projects ranging from military radar to cell phones and cellular communication systems, and from aircraft jet turbine monitoring to process control.

From 1997 until today, I have worked for Alcatel-Lucent (formerly Lucent Technologies,) both as a consultant and as a permanent employee.

My areas of expertise include systems architecture, writing software in C, C++ and assembly language. I have experience ranging from developing code for embedded systems, like cell phones, to writing programs for PCs, and creating web pages using html, javascript and css.

For several years, I have taught math, computing and science classes to my son (now aged 15 and expecting to graduate high school in 2012) and to small groups of homeschooled students.

Interests and hobbies

I now work part-time, which gives me time with my family and also to pursue some of my other interests.

I have an enthusiast of alternative technology, and have converted my truck to run on waste vegetable oil, and installed a solar hot water system on my home. Our home is heated by a Margin Gem wood-fired stove, on which we also cook all our meals through Fall, Winter and Spring.

I keep chickens for eggs and meat for our family, maintain a few bee hives, and grow a small garden.

Nature and wildlife have long been an area of interest for myself and my wife, Lorna. Together we present a series of workshops, which you can learn more about at http://www.WiseOwlWorkshops.com.

I am also active in my church and local community, chairing the Liberty Township Environmental Commission, and participating in amphibian monitoring and rescue on local streets.
