Books for November
The Citizen's Constitution by Seth Lipsky
Review
The Citizen's Constitution is a book that I think anyone interested in the constitution of our nation should read. In fact, perhaps it should be required reading for US History and US Government classes. Why do I think this book is so important? Not only does it take apart the constitution and put it into terms that anyone can understand, it also contains interesting and often amusing anecdotes about the making and application of the constitution. An excellent read.
The Atlantis Complex by Eoin Colfer
Review
Artemis Fowl has done it again. He's come up with a brilliant plan to combat global warming, or so he thinks. But when his friends hear the plan, they realize that not only are his reasoning abilities waning, but he's become delusional and afraid of the number four. Classic symptoms of a magical disease known as the Atlantis Complex. Unfortunately, Artemis chose a bad time to go completely crazy, as a deep-space probe has dropped from the sky and is barreling towards the hidden, underwater city of Atlantis, and Turnball Root, a rather insane but clever individual held prisoner by the LEP is planning a breakout.
The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin by Josh Berk
Review
The Dark Days of Hamburger Halpin is an excellent story for teenagers around the 15-16 age mark (only because it includes some innuendo and some people with strange personal lives), and revolves around Will Halpin, a deaf kid making the transition from a school created for deaf people to a regular public school. He finds fitting in hard, because of his hearing problems and his considerable girth. His friend is the only one lower in the pecking order than him, and none of the teachers seem to understand that they need to look at him when they talk to him. But when one of his classmates, the decidedly unlikable (but popular, go figure) son of a casino tycoon, is pushed to his death on a class trip to a mine, he and his friend team up to find the culprit. Can they track down a killer who's covered his (or her) tracks very well, and may orchestrate their demises in order to make sure the truth never comes out?
