Some of the project group
took a trip to the Abraham Lincoln exhibit at the Lehigh Valley Museum.
The
following is a review by Jack:
Who gave the Gettysburg Address? Who signed the Emancipation Proclamation? President Lincoln, of course!
President Lincoln is a
very famous president. We remember him for his deeds, but at age 57
he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth (later, Booth and his
conspirators were caught and hung). Lincoln struggled through the
night and then died. It took 20 days before he was buried, because he
was on a funeral train and he was embalmed at each stop. At each town
he was rolled to his viewing on a horse drawn carriage. Finally he
was buried in Springfield IL with his son. Only one photo survives of
him in death. All of the rest were burnt.
