The Schoolhouse Log: September 2011

September represented a month of changes for us as a family. Jack transitioned into both homeschooling and attending Warren County Community College part-time. He plans to graduate high school in January and attend the college full-time in the New Year.

Jack also started attending a new homeschool group during this month, who collaborate on an online newspaper, The Homeschoolers Quarterly. He is the "Points to Ponder" editor

Lorna's tutoring business took off this month and she has a full schedule of students coming to see her after school, from Monday through Thursday. She keeps Friday afternoon free for planning and preparation.

Phil and Lorna attended a wild edibles walk , and also took a vacation in Maine for a couple of days, whilst Jack stayed with friends, John and Miranda Shannon, and their children. He enjoyed a busy schedule with the Shannons, including a production of Macbeth, in which he took an active role.

Phil and Lorna enjoyed two days at the Common Ground Fair, and had many great experiences despite Lorna catching a nasty cold from Jack! On the way back to the Shannons', Lorna and Phil visited the Garden in the Woods, the home of the New England Wildflower Society, where they took an enjoyable tour, photographed some poisonous native plants, and fed the mosquitoes.
